Designed in the UK, but hand-made in Africa and India, the Aspiga collection includes beautiful leather beaded sandals, belts, baskets, masai jewellery and kikoys.
We use small work forces (not large factories) creating much needed jobs for local men and women, and revenue for their local communities. The work they receive from aspiga, they often tell us, ensures their livelihoods and that of their families. Using traditional techniques all their products are created by hand, so no two aspiga accessories are ever the same.
The beadwork is mainly done by ladies and many hours go into making one pair of sandals or a belt. Our jewellery is made by the ladies of the Masai Tribe, in their homes near Mount Kenya, while the men are tending livestock.
We strive to do business in a more enlightened way and to act in an ethical manner, paying our suppliers good prices and helping them with cash flow by paying deposits and paying our bills on time! We also care about the environment, so we try as hard as we can to ship our goods rather than fly them and to use as little packing as possible.
We are also proud that we donate a percentage of our profits to The Brydges centre, a children’s orphanage just outside Nairobi, who struggle financially on a daily basis, to carry out their hugely valuable and necessary work.
We are proud that aspiga, is not only selling some fabulous accessories, but is also helping to fight poverty through trade.
